To Dye For

Dying Easter eggs has always been a big deal in our house. There is something extraordinarily satisfying about having a mixing bowl filled with brightly colored eggs on the top shelf of my refrigerator, and the process by which we get there has become quite the "egg"stravaganza.

First, there is the cast of characters. Everyone is required to attend, with little wire egg dipper in tow. Everyone picks the color they want to start with. Then we all trade.

Except pink. Pink was reserved. Permanently. Want to make purple? Or orange? Too bad. Pink was busy. After a little kiss of encouragement from Daddy, we set out to make our very first eggs. And we chose pink.

Plop!! Splash! Dribble. Splatter. Crack. Crunch. (uh-oh.)

On to crayons, for a finishing touch. Crayons are a little less....involved...than the pink dye.

Pink eggs get ouchies when they are dropped on the floor. Twice.

Squish. Push.

Poke!
Oh, the concentration!! Pink eggs are serious Easter business!!

Two. A perfect pink pair.

We all decided to take a vote at the end of the evening. Which egg was best? Was it Max's self portrait egg??
Our patriotic egg? (Hayden's clever idea!)

There were lots of pretty ones to choose from.

In the end, we all agreed that this one was the cutest. No contest. :)
