Sunday Driver

Those "Sunday Drivers". They sure are slow as they meander their leisurely way through the streets. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way with my Sunday driver today. Hannah got behind the wheel and took me for a little spin through our neighborhood. She has her learner's permit now and has just started practicing with her Daddy in a parking lot. I decided it was time for the open road, so I climbed in the passenger seat, helped her reverse down our driveway, (didn't panic when one wheel fell off the curb), and encouraged her to set off on a blazing trail not to exceed 20 mph.

She did great, and she looked so stinking grown up in that driver's seat.

Really, I'm not cut out for driver's ed. Easing into curves and staying an appropriate distance from parked cars is something I do instinctively. I'm not sure how to calmly issue helpful instruction in those areas. I was accused of being a little jumpy.
"Scoot over NOW!!"
I'm not exactly sure why it doesn't occur to me to mention it calmly ten seconds before it needs to happen. I just know I feel an urgency to call out what should happen right NOW.

Despite my well intended yet stress inducing pointers, she did great. And did I mention she looked all grown up in the driver's seat??
Her Daddy had an impossibly difficult time evacuating his position in the passenger's seat and allowing me to take over. It would have been easier to get spots off a leopard than it was to get that man out of that seat. He gave one or two or a hundred pointers before we left.

So, the Buzzard and I have had a playful competition all day. Which one of us is more fun to have in the driver's seat when you are learning to drive? Hannah has been noticeably silent on the issue, so it's been up to Buzzard and I to duke it out for the title of "most fun passenger".

My jumpy panic thing was noted. I don't mind telling you also that apparently Buzzard yaks the whole entire live long time he is in the car. So, what's more fun? A jumpy comment or two, or constant buzzing?? I'm more fun. I know I am. Me and my jumpy self, we really enjoyed our Sunday drive. :)

How very brave of you! I just wish my son would get his permit and then magically get his license without any of the in-between stuff! We have to get cracking on that, but somehow, week after week, we forget to go in and take the permit test. How can that be?

Hahahahahahaha!

This post was so funny! You had me completely cracking up the whole time. I so vividly remember my parents teaching me to drive. Oh my goodness! I know that when it comes time for me to teach Amelia (oh, heaven help me...) I will be EXACTLY like you, with the ... "NOW" part. Haha! Hysterical...I love it. :o)

Cute piggies on the dash, by the way! ;o)

Yay Hannah for getting your permit!
I LOVE driving and I'm sure that you're really good at it. Don't worry, my parents were a little jumpy when I first started driving too ;)

Love and miss you guys!

Feet in the window. Not the best instructors' position ! LOL. One deployed airbag and you are chewing on your knees.

I let my hubs do almost all of the driver's training until the kids know what they are doing, otherwise I am way to nervous and i am a big-time back seat driver. It works best this way for all of us! :)
