Score!

I have clearly suffered from a case of writer's block this week. I couldn't bring myself to bore you with how quirky the washing machine repair man was who came to calibrate my machines. The proverbial "lint collection" really and truly was my focus for a day, and I mercifully thought I'd spare you the photo. What is there to say about how many times I had to explain place value notation to a nine year old who still doesn't grasp that one hundred thousand million isn't a number? I'm a firm believer that "unexciting" isn't a bad thing, but when the gigantic avocado my Mother gave to me was the highlight of mid-week, you can surely understand that I was floating in a sea of mundane. So, Mom sent an e-mail asking why I have not blogged and I told her I had writer's block. I thought I'd get some sympathy, and some encouragement. Maybe some homemade cookies. Instead, she sent me a three word reply.

"Get over it."

So, I'm trying.

The boys won their soccer game today! Their team scored several goals! Hayden played goalie for the first time.

Max and Hayden played together on the field for the majority of the game. There was pigtailed competition. Yep, we played girls again. Apparently there is a snafu in the schedule, so every now and then a girl team plays a boy team. Nothing stings worse than being clobbered by a bunch of girls (and we are speaking from experience here), so today's victory was sweet.

The cheering section was so stinking adorable, those boys just had to play well!

I made a score of my own today at Target. I strolled into the electronics department quite on accident and happened to notice this sweet little gadget on the shelf.

Buzzard asked for one of these for Father's Day, and I've been trying since June to get my hands on one. I'm certain he wants it to practice all his yoga positions.

All my boys headed to the lake today for a cub scout family campout. Hannah had a babysitting job and Emma has a runny nose, so I stayed home with the girls. That meant I scored a quiet house for the evening, so Mom and I cooked a nice dinner and watched a movie. The boys called from the campground. Buzzard had to write a skit for the Webelos to perform tonight around the campfire. Here are the fruits of his creative labors....

The Setting: Four scouts out in the woods....

First scout: "My Grandpa is a park ranger, and he says if you come up against a bear in the forest, you should stretch out your arms and make yourself look real big." (Stretches out arms.)

Second scout: "My Dad is a hunter, and he says if you come up against a bear, you should yell loudly and make a lot of noise." (Yells loudly.)

Third scout: "My Brother is a hiker, and he says if you come up against a bear, you should freeze and be perfectly still." (Stands motionless.)

Fourth scout: "Oh yeah?? Well, I'm an EAGLE SCOUT and I know that if I come up against a bear, I need to start running real fast!"

All the other scouts: "No way! That's wrong! You could never outrun a bear!!!"

Fourth scout again: "I don't need to outrun the BEAR....I only need to outrun YOU GUYS!"

Tomorrow afternoon the boys will return, caked in dirt and loaded with stories. It will be pandemonium, and suddenly I will have ten things to do all at once. Or one hundred thousand million. Perhaps that will cure the writer's block. :)
