The Perfect Ten

Today is 10/10 and Emma turns 10 months old today. What fun! We are in Kansas. We came yesterday to introduce Emma to her Great Grandmother who will turn 91 years old next week. Aint she just grand??
"GiGi" is my mother-in-law's mother. I wish she could have been here to see the smile on GiGi's face when she played with Emma last night. It was sweet indeed, and I think the two of them will continue to hit it off in high fashion this weekend. I wish I could somehow bottle 91 years of wisdom. There is something poignant about seeing Emma's soft, smooth, little legs curled up in the loving grasp of arms that show the mark of time. Stable, yet dainty arms that opened so joyfully to welcome another one to the family. Arms that always have enough love and hugs to go around.

GiGi is an artist, and she loves to spend her days painting. It was fun to see the works she has done since we were here last fall, and to hear the stories behind every painting. Each one always has a name, and a story. Right now, she is working on a landscape with a tree emblazoned in autumn colors. It is gorgeous, and it reminds me of some of what we saw on our drive yesterday across the Kansas prairie. The trees are showing hints of change, with wild reds and oranges creeping onto the very edges of the trees. Some of the prairies are already blanketed in vibrant yellow flowers, and by the time GiGi finishes her painting, fall here in the Midwest will look just like the brilliant paint colors on her canvas. We love coming here this time of year.

After a short visit with GiGi last night we took the kids out to dinner. The boys did an awesome job during the long car trip, so we got them a reward for dessert. They had a s'more bar that was the most clever thing I've ever seen. They brought a wooden tray to our table that contained a bowl of marshmallows, a Hershey bar, some graham crackers, and a mini campfire! The boys had a ball roasting marshmallows and assembling their treats.

This restaurant also served buckets of peanuts at the table. I ate a ton of them because the boys don't eat them, but the loved cracking them open!

It was a great day, and a wonderful start to our little vacation. On a scale of one to ten, it was definately a ten. A perfect ten. :)
