When Life Is Peachy

I have fallen in love with Macon, Georgia. We got to town yesterday, and I can see why our friends are so pleased to call this charming town home. We have known Mark and Candy for many years, and when they moved to Georgia three years ago it was a very tearful goodbye for me. Candy is a wonderful friend, but also a mentor in many ways. She is one of those girlfriends who I crave spending time with, because she inspires me to be a better person. We are so happy they invited us for a visit, and being together again feels just like old times. Mark and Candy have three boys, and Max and Hayden are thrilled to be reunited with their good buddies once again.

Yesterday, we visited a peach processing and packing plant. It is the height of peach season, so the packing plant was in full swing. It was interesting to see the process of getting peaches from the orchard to the stores. The highlight of the visit was the little cafe that serves fresh, warm peach cobbler and homemade soft serve peach ice cream. We took refuge from a rain storm while indulging in way too much dessert. There was also a sampling room where we got to try a large assortment of peach salsas, dressings, dips, and spreads. It was, in a word, just peachy.

Mark and Candy live on a beautiful piece of property. They have a large, red barn in their yard with a loft that is a perfect play place for little boys. They have a zip line and a rope swing. Large pine trees tower over the yard and provide shade. This little fellow wandered into the yard and became a slow motion celebrity.
He provided ample entertainment for five little boys, who were so fond of their new friend that they posed for this photo for me before church this morning.
Our week is off to a glorious start, and tomorrow we head to the mountains with Mark and Candy to see some waterfalls and pan for gold. Peachy.
