Amicalola Falls

We have spent the past few days with our friends, Mark and Candy, and their three spunky sons in a beautiful log home on Walnut Mountain in Georgia. We did lots of hiking in the area and enjoyed visiting some gorgeous waterfalls, including Amicalola Falls, which is the largest waterfall east of the Mississippi. We had to climb a whopping 600 stairs to reach the top, and by the end I felt the desperate need for a rooftop from which to shout.

I climbed 600 stairs! In a row!!!! Never mind that the six year old I was traveling with beat me handily to the top.

Near the top of the falls there was a mountain stream that was ice cold and crystal clear. It felt so good to splash that water on our faces. The boys played in the stream and chased a snake. I admired the spectacular waterfall and marveled over the number 600.

When we got back to the house there was a visitor waiting for us in our yard. It felt great to be in the mountains with friends. We had five little boys in our group, and to have trails to run on and rocks to climb and streams to splash in was a great experience.
Why, oh why can't I get this picture to load correctly?? It isn't sideways in my photo file. You know what? Tilt your head. Then you can see just how cute he really is. :) So, life isn't perfect. Even on vacation. LOOK!! The mountain we stayed on was so steep the deer appeared to be standing sideways!!
