My Mom is a real stitch. We call her "Oma", which is German for "Grandma". Everyone calls her that - my friends, the kids' friends, and our whole extended family. Everyone except the little boy next door. He can't remember the name "Oma", so he sometimes calls her "Oklahoma". My Mom is a good sport and takes a hearty dose of teasing in stride, which is a good thing, because she seems to supply us with a steady stream of things to tease her about. Yesterday was a prime example.
The S.W.A.T. team showed up at a Costco yesterday. If you don't know, Costco is a warehouse shopping venue, like a Sam's Club, and you need a membership card to shop there. We heard on the news that a bank robber took cover in a Costco mid-day, and that the entire store needed to be evacuated by the police. Mom and I were on our way to Bible study last night talking about what an ordeal that must have been. I wondered aloud how the police managed to get that many civilians out of a public place in a calm, safe, and orderly fashion without losing track of the suspect they were trying to apprehend.
My Mom's conclusion...
"I'm sure they just lined everyone up at the door and had them show their Costco membership card on their way out as proof of identification."
I'm sure it probably went something like that. There would be no bad guys slipping by with Oma running S.W.A.T.
They did catch the guy in Costco without incident. I think I heard on the news that they have him on twenty counts of armed robbery at banks and one count of entering a discount warehouse without the appropriate membership card.
