Birthday Bash

My Honey has a birthday this Friday. The kids and I planned a special family night last night to celebrate. We wanted to take him out to the ballpark. We wanted to buy him some peanuts and cracker jacks. We wanted to root, root, root for the home team. But we would have needed an umbrella.
Just as we approached the parking lot to the stadium, sprinkles began to hit the windshield. The two little boys in the backseat clutching ball gloves looked even more gloomy than the clouds in the sky. Hannah and I, sports enthusiasts that we are, patted ourselves on the back for effort and happily began formulating "Plan B". We ended up at Dave and Busters for dinner. After the meal, we hit the gameroom for some serious sensory overload. My Honey relived some of his glory days from the early 80's at the Galaga machine, and the kids challenged one another at air hockey. I tried my hand at "Deal Or No Deal" and threw a few mean skee balls. We are not arcade aficionados, but we were able to find a few of the "uncool" games, which we were just barely cool enough to play. Like whack-a-mole. There is simply no thrill like whacking a plastic mole with a sponge mallet. And winning a ticket for doing so. Couple that experience with a plate of cheese fries and you have a full blown birthday bash, despite the rain.

The boys redeemed our hard earned tickets for a special prize for their Dad. They chose a stuffed dog, which was the mascot from hubby's Alma mater. Those whack-a-mole skills really paid off.
