Wordless Wednesday: My Girls

Does a recipe count as words? :) Today's casserole is another simple dish. The original recipe calls for two pounds of sausage, but I prefer to use half sausage and half ground beef. I found this in Taste of Home, and it is one of my favorites.

Sausage and Rice Bake

2 pounds bulk Italian sausage (or mix beef and sausage)
4 celery ribs, thinly sliced
1 onion, chopped fine
1 green pepper, chopped
4 1/2 cups water
3/4 cups dry chicken noodle soup mix (1 1/2 envelopes)
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 cup uncooked long grain rice
1/4 cup bread crumbs
2 T melted butter

Cook sausage and veggies together until meat is no longer pink and veggies are tender; drain. In a large saucepan, bring water to full boil and add dry soup mix. Reduce heat; simmer, uncovered, for 5 minutes or until the noodles are tender. Stir in canned soup, rice and sausage mixture; mix well. Transfer to a greased baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 for 40 minutes. Toss bread crumbs and butter; sprinkle on top, then bake uncovered for additional 10 minutes. Let stand 10 minutes before serving.

Wordless Wednesday...The Thursday Edition

Last night the kids and I ate dinner at Hannah's favorite restaurant in honor of the fact that she started her second year of Worldview class today.

More Wordless Wednesday...Hannah's Version

Hannah showed me some of the nature shots she got on vacation. I think she has a great eye and some artistic flair. So here you are, compliments of my Nature Girl.

Wordy Wordless Wednesday

....Not so wordless after all. I skipped a day of posting because I'm mad at the blog. Mad, mad, mad. My love affair with technology is a fickle one. I have all kinds of fun learning to do something "techy", like blogging, and feel quite fancy when I can perform a cool trick like importing a photo or creating a link. Then spacing issues knock me right off my high horse. I just want to use the computer. I don't want to fix it. I want my blog to look perfect, and when it doesn't, I waste countless minutes sitting here trying to correct it. As you have noticed, I can't figure out how to make my spacing come out correctly. I keep trying to edit my posts, over and over, but I can't figure out the problem. And because I can only think of one way to fix it, I keep trying that same thing repeatedly. It is hard for me to understand that if it didn't work the first time, it isn't going to work the 111th time either! Who wants to read a recipe when there are no spaces between the lines?? Why do I let this ruin my day?? Do I not have more pressing concerns?? I feel passionately that everyone be able to comfortably read the calico bean recipe, so they can hurry up and make some, so families everywhere will be satisfied with delectable bean goodness. How sad that your eyes can not take a small rest between reading the ingredients and learning that you are supposed to let them simmer in the crock pot. And all because I can't figure out how to give you the space.

Stupid blog. Please don't tell the boys I used that word. We aren't allowed to use it in our house. Stupid blog. It just bears repeating. Makes me mad, mad, mad....

I mean, there are many people living in this house. Personal space is at a premium. I'm a girl who can appreciate a little space. I can't even go to the bathroom without a dog (or two) at my feet and someone shouting an urgent request at me through the door. And now I'm feeling crowded in my own blog.

Okay, enough of that. Now I'll leave you with a recipe for a smiley summer sandwich. Layer something sweet between two rowdy roughians and thoroughly enjoy on a rainy summer day.
