Nine months seemed like a really long time to be pregnant. In contrast, nine months with an infant in our family has flown right by. For some reason, nine months is a big milestone. Recently, I was feeling sad that those sweet newborn days have slipped so suddenly into the past. I'm so fond of the teeny-tiny baby stage. I loved the downy fur that covered the tops of Emma's ears, the way she would sink into the crook of my arm like a little beanbag, and how amazingly tiny her little feet and toes were. Moving on seemed so hard.
Then, the magic of being nine months old just blossomed all at once. I now remember how fun this age is, and I'm so glad we're here! So, Miss Emma, in honor of your special day, here are nine things that I dearly love about you....
#9 - I love how you chase Cheerios and puffs around on your highchair tray with your index fingers.
#8 - I love how you chew on the end of your stuffed elephant's trunk.
#7 - I love the way you smell after a bath.
#6 - I love how you flap your arms up and down when you get excited, and how close you get to lift off!
#5 - I love how you blow raspberries.
#4 - I love how ticklish you are, and how you laugh so hard you snort when I tickle your belly.
#3 - I love the smiles that you bring to Oma, Opa, Granna, Nana, and Papa. You are so lucky to have Grandparents who love you so much, and who delight in seeing you.
#2 - I love how you purse your lips and get a determined look on your face when you crawl.
#1 - I love that you are MINE, and that I have nine months of very happy memories.
I know another nine months from now, I will look back and miss these days terribly. So please, Lord, keep me focused. Help me to keep priorities that honor You and serve my family. And help me to savor the sheer joy that happens every single day when living with a nine month old. :)
Today, with the bear I squeezed during labor and held in my hand when she was born.
