We had guests Saturday and Sunday, so we worked to get the house cleaned and the yard done in preparation for those visits. We woke this morning with a feeling of great freedom. No chores! We decided to turn a blind eye to the never ending "project lists" and we declared today a family fun and labor-less day. It has been a really long time since Buzzard had a day off to devote to relaxation.
We went grocery shopping as a family first thing this morning, which means we returned home with the seven things we needed, and 31 impulse purchases we didn't. We took a bike ride through the neighborhood scouting out front doors. Ours needs to be painted, so we took an inventory of different door colors to decide which ones we like best. That is one of the projects on the infamous list that needs to be tackled when the weather gets cooler. We ate big, juicy watermelon for lunch. It was the sweetest one of the summer. After lunch we took a swim and played water volleyball. Emma loved the water and enjoyed being in her new floatie. We ended our day with a family feast, which I will post more about tomorrow.
"Labor-less" is a relative term when you have a big family. Even relaxation takes planning and effort. The activities, the food, the schedule....it's all pretty labor intensive if you ask me. At the end of the day I feel tired and worn out, but in a really good way. These people, the ones who live here, the ones creating Big Jobs and Constant Work, they are a really fun bunch to spend time with. I'm glad we had a whole day to work hard at playing. It was fun, and a memorable labor of love.
