Girls of Green Gables

Tonight I participated in a marathon. Not the Olympic kind, where you have to actually run or sweat or anything uncomfortable like that. No, this was a much more enjoyable exercise. Hannah had four girls over to spend the night for an Anne of Green Gables marathon. Hannah cleaned the house, decorated the den, made a shopping list of requested snack foods, spread quilts and pillows all over the den floor, then welcomed her girlfriends for all three Anne of Green Gables movies...nine hours in total. I made it until 2 a.m. when Anne (with an "E") Shirley finally confessed her love for Gilbert Blythe, then I left the girls to enjoy the final three hours on their own. I fall more deeply in love with those movies every time I watch them...

Gilbert calling Anne "Carrots".
Anne leaving the cheesecloth off the plum pudding sauce and finding a drowned mouse in there.

Diana, Anne's kindred spirit, indulging in a bit too much raspberry cordial.

Anne wallowing in the depths of despair and Marilla sharply reminding her that to despair is to turn your back on God.

Oh, I do love those movies. All nine hours. And watching them on quilts with a bunch of teenagers is really the way to go. I made queso and fried quesadillas and Oma brought over the makings for a Sundae bar. It was grand. And after we ate our fill we spent the evening using Green Gables expressions....

"Do you dance as well as you boast?"

"The only thing you've ever had to wear twice is a sour expression."
We were the Green Gables Girls. Or would that be the Maidens of Magnolia Manor? The marathon was a spur of the moment thing. One of the girls is leaving for college next weekend, so we had to act quickly to be able to do this before she left. We had such a good time that we are already planning our next marathon. It will be a Jane Austen weekend, where we will swallow our Pride and confront our Prejudice. Perhaps we can coax some Sense into these girls, and some Sensibility to boot. And guess who will be there? Why, Emma, of course!!

That was soooooo much fun (even if I didn't stay awake very long). The Anne of Green Gables movies are like my favorite movies EVER! We need to do that again. Thanks for posting stuff about it!
