Fort Mountain

Today was our final day with Mark and Candy. We hiked to Fort Mountain, named for the mysterious, ancient stone wall on the mountain. We saw a spectacular look-out where the view spanned for miles. I never knew Georgia had such an amazing landscape. The hikes along trails and waterfalls the last few days have been invigorating and refreshing.

Saying good-bye to our friends was hard. The boys all got along so well, and it was wonderful to have time outdoors to enjoy one another. We stayed up half the night last night playing Canasta and eating warm, homemade cookies. We finally got to bed as a huge storm rolled in, filling the sky with flashes of lightning and booming cracks of thunder, the view of which was spectacular from our third floor bedroom in our secluded mountain cabin.

One funny thing did happen today. Remember my dilemma about car food? And my infatuation/obsession with keeping my car clean and neat? Well, Candy has been poking fun at me about that all week. It has been raining and muddy and keeping the van neat and tidy has been an uphill battle, to say the very least. So today, we are at the corner of No and Where, in the middle of a driving rain storm, and guess what happens? Let me just say....

She who makes idol out of clean van shall be given car sick child to teach her lesson. Scrud. True friends are those who will stand roadside in the rain with you while you weep over car mats.

We are now in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee. Tonight we enjoyed an awesome meal at a quaint restaurant called The Old Mill, where every meal comes with creamy corn chowder, fried corn fritters, salad with homemade buttermilk ranch dressing, baking powder biscuits, mashed potatoes, green beans with thick cut bacon pieces, and homemade dessert. Oh, quit this. Another meal like tonight and I might need to go find another 600 stairs to climb!
