We are part of a wonderful scout troop. All the families who participate homeschool, and we have been very fortunate to forge some dear friendships with these folks through the years. Entire families show up on scout nights. There are cub dens for the younger boys, a scout troop for the older boys, a Faithkeeper group for the young girls, and a Venture Crew division for older girls and boys who have achieved eagle. I love that it is a family affair because that is what helps these relationships grow and flourish. Hayden is lucky because two of his very best buddies are in his den. Tonight one of the Moms, who is a very gifted artist, offered to come and teach the boys how to watercolor. I can't resist a good craft, so me and another Mom sat in too. We worked on desert landscapes. My mountains, come to find out, were peak shaped like Colorado mountains instead of flat on top like Arizona mountains. I also have lots of green vegetation in my desert. Better luck for me next time. But we had fun. I love to watch kids create, and this stirs in me a desire to buy a new art curriculum that I've had my eye on for some time now. That way I can use "teaching art" as an excuse to sit and play with all the art supplies myself.
