Rockin' The Rock Wall

The boys went rock climbing tonight with scouts. On the way there, I told the boys that if one or both of them rang the bell on top of the wall we could go out for icecream afterwards to celebrate. They instantly began begging the other to make it to the top! Hayden went first, and he did a good job. With some gentle coaching from the "ground crew", he was able to make it to the bell. Max went next. He went great guns at first, then stopped about half way up the wall. Once he looked down it was all over. He froze. He came up to me afterwards with a sweet, sad look on his face and asked me if I was disappointed in him. Disappointed?!? I reminded him that I'm the chicken who gets nervous on the third step of a ladder, and assured him I was very proud of him for trying his best. He sat and studied the other boys as they climbed. I could tell he was wishing he had gone further. Turned out, there was enough time for everyone to climb twice. On Max's second turn he scampered right up that wall and gave that old bell a shake. Spiderman had nothin' on that boy. Two ice creams later, they are home, showered, and tucked in bed. Scaling the walls has been added to the resume.
